It seems to me that a plugger remembers, when he was a kid, asking Dad why there were so many roads named for Mr. Frontage (or, in my case, asking “‘Roadside Park, 1 mile’? Didn’t we already go by Roadside Park?”)
Oh, but indeed I have been to Texas many times (a son and his family live in Houston). And I am VERY familiar with Frontage roads (though I must say that my iPhone navigation gets a bit confused by them). I wish we had frontage roads in Virginia . . . they certainly make a lot of sense.
Of course, today most road signs are symbols rather than English words. This, I assume, is because here in AMERICA, you are not expected to read and understand ENGLISH!Ok, got that off my chest.I used to see signs stating “Winding Road Ahead”; but I’ll be darned if I ever saw anyone actually winding a road…
BTW, “Frontage Roads” used to be called “Service Roads” as they were used to “service” the businesses located just off and inaccessible from the main roadway.

A plugger knows what Frontage roads are

Of course he does. Brookins has either lost the concept or run out of material…

That Plugger (or Gary?) has obviously never been to Texas! Thousands of miles of frontage roads.

I never heard the term before. They were always called service roads wherever I’ve lived.

And in California’s high desert, it is “Outer (whatever) Street” instead of frontage road.

I do, indeed remember a long car trip when I was a kid and wondering how Frontage Rd connected up across half a dozen states!
