I don’t think there was purple kryptonite. Green could kill him, the effects of red were unpredictable, gold (not yellow) would remove his powers permanently, blue could only harm the Bizarros, and white killed plant life. I believe there may have been a jewel version also, but it was rarely used and I don’t remember what it did. In the 1960s it was pretty clear that kryptonite couldn’t hurt ordinary humans, but in the Superman stories of the late 1980s Lex Luthor wore a kryptonite ring to keep Superman at bay. Prolonged exposure to the radiation cost him his hand.
