I used to play Kings Quest, back in the DOS days. You were rewarded with more points if you found the non-violent solllution. You could play it either way, and both ways were fun, but the highest score could be attained if you didn’t kill the dragon, or the giant, or whatever.

I’ve found letting the other side attack first to be a very effective method in many games. A lot of guardians are oblivious to you if you move slowly and ignore them.
