Thanks to all who commented on the Andy Devine and Froggy reference. It was a TV show called “Andy’s Gang” here in the US and ran from 1955-60.Although it is possible, I doubt anyone reading this is old enough to actually remember the first public non-mechanical TV broadcast as run during January, 1929 by the BBC. It took another 10 years of legal wrangling before broadcast TV was done in the USA.
" To me, “gilt” carries connotations of fraud/crime, perhaps as in “100 percent pure 10 karat gold plate!”".The difference between guilt ( fact of wrongdoing: the fact of having committed a crime or done wrong, responsibility for wrongdoing: the responsibility for committing a crime or doing wrong, legal culpability: the responsibility, as determined by a court or other legal authority, for committing an offense that carries a legal penalty) versus gilt (covered with a thin layer of gold or a substance that looks like gold) should be kept in mind as being different despite sounding the same.
A problem with the imagery above is that there are lobbyists who are not paid anywhere near as much as others, so their houses wouldn’t be all that much bigger than many of the others, many in fact being condos or apartments..Another is that the lobbyists have to share the money they are paid among each other. Which is to say, that while there is one king, there might be many lobbyists. Some exist to stop the other lobbyist from telling only one side of the effects of proposed legislation..It is noteworthy that lobbyists exist for the Sierra Club, unions of all kinds, defense, agribusiness, transportation in all possible forms, energy in all possible forms, communications — often wanting more freedom for themselves or obstructions in the paths of competitors (this applies to many different groups as well), electronics, trade, antitrade, civil rights, freedom of speech, curtailment of freedom, immigration reform, antigun, progun, less government, more government. You name it and those who are successful and even those who are unsuccessful probably have someone near the legislators, bureaucrats, administrators trying to persuade them to their clients’ viewpoints and needs..They are protected under First Amendment freedom of speech as speakers for segments of society. They are not protected under bribery or other criminal activities, but keeping record of meetings with lobbyists with government officials should keep most of that down, that and the fact that no one person is able to make the decisions the lobbyists desire.
Left out Hollywood TV and Movie producers..I can’t remember if it was Aaron Spelling or Norman Lear who had 30,000 square foot mansions….Spelling probably….https://sp.yimg.com/ib/th?id=HN.607991198342581176&pid=15.1

Pretty nifty for peasants. The Fink isn’t taxing them enough if they can afford doors and windows.

The pecking order, in brilliant graphics. The lobbyists apparently don’t even need moats. Do the Huns hire them too?

Likely the only house in today’s strip without a mortgage belongs to the birds…
