Appearing on the Rose Garden with the family in a publicized speech was clearly an attempt to distract from the VA scandal. It backfired once that right wing bastion CNN decided to interview some of Bergdahl’s fellow soldiers.
What the strip points out is that the wingnuts will criticize Obama no matter what he does. Publicly announcing the rescue of an American POW was not for “political gain.” It wasn’t like he was standing under a big banner that said “MISSION ACCOMPLISHED.” If Obama announced a cure for cancer the wingnuts would be howling this was a “distraction” from the Benghazi “scandal.”
