That’s enough room to grow a salad. One. Salad. You notice their neighbors on either side have high hedges. It’s to block the view of them in the pool. Can you imagine living next door to these idiots?
I remember this one from a couple years back. It’s still just as funny now as then. What’s so sad is that I’ve known people like that. What really gets me giggling, though, is the idea of Joy doing anything like canning! Bwahahaha! Up until my arthritis crippled me we had a huge garden, done in the ‘square foot gardening’, raised-bed method, and we DID have enough for me to ‘put by’ — and my pressure canner was one of the best investments we ever made. I still use it to make jams, jellies, pickles and the like. The only thing that didn’t last until the following year was the tomato sauce — that got gobbled up within about two to three months. But the beans, peas, peppers, zucchini and beets lasted until the following spring. We had root crops (turnips, rutabagas, carrots, etc.) that we’d keep overwinter, too. Having said all that, if Burl and Joy applied themselves to that small patch, did companion planting and put in successive, rotated crops, they COULD actually get a good bit out of it. But since when have the Pennys applied themselves to anything — other than stuffing their gobs full of Twinkies, Hohos, DingDongs and Stouffer’s?
Wait till the pool water spills over when all 6 get in, there goes the garden. The birds are going to starve in this one. I bet he planted 1 seed of each veg.? Anyway they won’t tend it, it’s too much work. So is weeding,,and watering.

A “Victory” garden? No one has said anything….I’d thought Burl and Joy were younger than me….but what baby boomer plants a Victory garden?
Dry…. as for Stouffer’s … yeah, nothing wrong with it now and then. Not too healthy as a main diet.Problem is the Pennys consider Stouffer’s lasagne ’home made from scratch."Hate to see what they eat the rest of the time!
And Dani…. one tomato plant feeds several families?Love to live where they’re that magical!
I have to put mine in pots (5 gal) and they don’t get enough hours of sun…so I know I have to plant 3 times as many as I would elsewhere to get the same yield….
But still… I have dozens of tomato plants to get enough for me!
