When I was a kid my mother used to tell to eat all our food because there were children starving in India or China. We would tell her to take the leftovers and mail them to the starving children.

Hey – Huey’s asking to be excused from the table. Politely. Take it and run!

I’d recommend starting the kids out with Smaller portions and telling them to help themselves to Seconds any time.
I’ve actually done this with “Picky” eaters and it works wonderfully.
Instead of “I can’t eat this much”, you get “Is this all we get?”
Then, when they go for seconds, htey scrape the pot empty.
