Huey: So public libraries are gonna be allowed to use filtering software so kids can't look at adult web sites. Caeser: Yeah... Huey: Who would've thought they could still find ways to make public libraries even less appealing to young people. Caeser: It's quite a feat.

I used to work at a library where we had to kick people off the public computers for watching porn – on big screens, with lots of people walking by, high volume, and no requests for headphones – at least two or three times a day. My favorite incident was when somebody brought in their laptop and asked permission to watch porn on it with our wi-fi in a quiet corner. I had to say no (policy and all that), but I was tempted to reply “We’ve got at least three or four people already in here doing just that; I would have neither noticed or cared if you hadn’t asked!”

Once upon a time, all they needed to attract people was have lots of Books and a good AC (or furnace in the winter).
True Fact: We might not have had Communism if Karl Marx hadn’t been spending a lot of time in the Library because he ccouldn’t afford to Heat his home in the winter. So he spent a lot of days sitting around soaking up their Heat and writing down every bit of drivel that wandered through his head. Mostly Resentment because He Was Broke and didn’t have a lot of Job Skills.
