"On the one hand, Colin Powell supports affirmative action. On the other hand, Condoleezza Rice was pushing for the death penalty for anyone who teaches a black person how to read..." "I think, in the end, just keeping black students out of college was a fair compromise." Bush then received a standing ovation from the all-black crowd.

Sad but true: In the OLD South, there WAS a death penalty for teaching a black person to Read.
And, sometimes for Being a black person who could read.

I wish that there was a sad or angry icon to comment, instead of only like, when the person tells about a distasteful, or like in bakana’s comment, totally evil historical fact. bakana is not the one I’d be commenting on, but the historical facts.
