The type of behavior that boy displays with his fascination with vacuums is typical of someone who has Asperger’s Syndrome. See: http://www.aspergers.com/index.htm
I’m sorry that some of you find those who are different to be “creepy.”
Maizing: I have A.S., but my fascination isn’t vacuums. To me when I comes to machinery, I was into helicopter’s when I was Earl’s age. And sometimes I still am.
I also have Asperger’s. My love has always been mathematics, one of the classic symptoms. I hate vacuum cleaners (or anything that makes horrible noises, like American Idol.)
Yes, I read it in the AJC newpaper. As for the word “suck”, 25 years ago, you wouldn’t read or hear them say a word like that in the entertanment media. Now that word is even used in kids’ TV shows which (at times) I don’t have a problem with nowadays.

Can we please have an end to this storyline? There’s just something creepy about it.

Earl is quite charming as kids go in many neighborhoods. It is good for them to find a strong interest in thier early years;-)
