Cleavon was excellent in that role. Gene Wilder was also great. And Mel Brooks as an Indian chief? OUTSTANDING!!!!

Blazing Saddles would later get a pseudo animated remake in the form of Paws of Fury. Fans were put off by the concept alone (not helping how the original movie is considered a tough act to follow). Not helping matters is how it completely removed very important aspects from the original movie such as the over-the-top edgy humor and the deep rooted message of how racism is completely stupid. Just goes to show why you shouldn’t remake something that isn’t broken.

Not a movie that could be made today.

The only reason Blazing Saddles will not be remembered as the funniest movie ever made* is The Big Lebowski.

*I saw BS in theaters twice when it was new; once with a predominantly white audience, once predominantly black. The amount of laughter was about equal – but much of it was in different places.

We can’t help who we are attracted to. Personally, I’m attracted to all women. Not sure I’d marry another redhead though.

I find it a little funny that the folks who say everyone would be offended about Blazing Saddles today are the ones being mocked in the movie.
