I like the little guy in the bottom right who’s saying vision care not covered either. With over 2000 pages in the health care muck billl, we don’t know what’s covered and what isn’t.
/\ Jobs can be created in time by eliminating the 3% tax rate for moneys earned by corporations that move or have moved out of the country. Let the corporations pay the same as a company which is home based. In fact, give a tax break to those who start businesses or keep their business here while making those who move their businesses pay more tax.
Justice22, I like your suggestion. We’ve thought the same thing for a very long time. Make Walmart have their products manufactured here with good quality instead of in the cheapest places they can find throughout the world.
lorax: The American infrastructure is in shambles. Roads and bridges are in desperate need of repair. We are the only first world country without high speed rail. These are not ditch digging and busy work jobs. Plus, rescuing bankrupt states’ education jobs is a worthwhile and long term solution. Without good education, we have nowhere to go but down.
1 - Canada does not have a high speed train either, and you don’t need a high speed train anyway unless there’s a market for it. And if there is a market for it, let someone build it, the government doesn’t need to be in on it.
2 - If you think your roads and bridges are in bad shape, come drive north of the border. Every time we drive to the States, the difference in road quality is amazing.
3 - Rescuing a State’s education jobs is not technically creating jobs, and it certainly does not alleviate the unemployment situation your country is experiencing.
Don’t forget that re-building the infrastructure is a temporary lift in employment, very expensive and only helps you if you are in the construction business. There are a lot of unrelated fields out there.
The whole project reminds me of when Newfoundland had severe unemployment. They received lots of these contracts, ended up paying people to dig ditches and refill them again. In the end it solved nothing and cost a lot of money.
If our government would be spending this much money throughout a recession, I’d freak out. It’s going to take ages to re-pay this, and there’ll be another recession in a decade or so anyway, what is this going to solve?
I really think Obama is going to have a lot more success by cultivating a business-friendly environment that will lull businesses to move back to the States instead of trying to hire people himself.
Lorax, You have some great highways in Canada also. Our infrastructure does need work on it. Infrastructure jobs are temporary but the jobs of the WPA in the 1930s produced roads and bridges that are still standing and used today. There is a need for a high speed rail system if not to just get people from place to place, to do it more efficiently than driving. Because of the regulations and need to purchase land, I fear the government must be involved. Present “high speed rail” plans involve using present rails along with the usual commercial traffic. This will not work. A true high speed transit system needs a separate track and terminals in the populated areas.
Jobs are the problem – two million Americans lost their jobs in the past two years – so I am sure, since they want back into power, that the GOP has some great plans on how to create more jobs – So maybe those of you who support the GOP and don’t think Obama and the DEMS are doing a enough, could you please answer the question that I have to ask so often since I never get an answer:
Gee, Scot, I missed that election in ‘07. Sorry about that. What position was Mr. Obama elected to? The problem with Haiti’s government is that there actually is very little of it and what there is leans too far to the right. I guess that is the Conservative way though, no taxes and no regulation. Just spend, spend, spend.
Scooter’s really onto something- govmint don’t create no jobs, but folks work fo’ gumnt- lik army, navy, Lockheed, Boeing, and of cus tichers like him had.
<=======Yeah! More tax cuts for the rich is the answer! After all who needs the public roadways? Or public parks and libraries? Or a good education system for your kids?
