US ‘soldiers’ are cowardly, stupid, venal mercenaries.Killers of women and children.For some reason 18 of our heroes kill themselves every day.I wonder why?
HAR – If you look into it, something that you should have done before speaking up, you will find most of those killed themselves because, well because we failed them.
We let the Government (both Bush and Obama) keep sending them back into the same mess 3 - 4 - 5 or more times. We let the Government (this time I mean Bush and the boys) never provide them with the assistance and help they needed when they started losing their marriage, their home, and their children due to the stess they were under.
I hope that never, never in your life will have to kill someone, it will effect you in ways you cannot imagine.
Our military has been too often misused, and abused, notably by “conservative” administrations since the big mistake of Viet Nam- started by Johnson (who I “disliked intensely”), and continued for a longer period by Nixon (who I also “disliked intensely”)
I served for three years, my son has served for eleven years. We’re both disabled as a result, and very angry about politicians, and cowards, doing harm to our troops for their own purposes, then dumping on them.
We do not need “good citizens” continuing to dump on them because of hypocritical arguments about their fitness to serve.
Having briefly been a soldier (it was an unsatisfactory experience for all concerned), I don’t think your average enlistee is either a hero or a villain. For every recruit I met who selflessly wanted to serve his country, there was another who simply wanted to shoot the biggest guns available, and four who just wanted a stable job or money for college or a ticket out of their home towns. One guy I trained with was asked by a sergeant why he joined up, and his straight-faced answer was “I want to kill communists.” (He was asked this during our briefing on war crimes, and he was having trouble grasping the concept.)
For more than half a century, we’ve known that “I was just following orders” is not an acceptable excuse for wanton killing, but neither is honorable service in a dishonorable cause praiseworthy, looking at the Big Picture.
In an all-volunteer military, it ought to be understood that you’re surrendering certain choices in the matter of where and how you’re going to be deployed, but of course kids of 18 or 20 don’t really think that far ahead most of the time.

Harvin;
I can only guess that such inane words coming out your keyboard are due to the fact that you have never been out of this country and believe all the false propaganda coming out of Al-Qaeda and our media. Assuming that you might be correct that 18 soldiers choose to commit suicide a day (a number I’ve not seen as proven fact); what is the percentage who continue to serve with honor and dignity so that mealy mouthed ungrateful users like you can have the right to free speech? How many women and children have been killed during the past 25 days in Haiti by our military? I have seen firsthand the incredible compassion and service these brave, intelligent, honorable men and women of all services have demonstrated to the people of Haiti; I am proud to be represented by them. Look into any of the catastrophes around the world since we became a nation and you will see our ‘Global Representatives of the Land of the Free’ God Bless America and God Bless our men and women in all branches of the military…………….
CHURCH - What in my posting make you think I have any contempt for the military, I have contempt for the people who put our men and women in harms way without any regard to them and what it does for them.
I also have contempt for those who hide behind our fighting men and women to deflect blame and not take responsibities for their actions by claiming any crizitism of stupid wars is a betrayal of our troops.
But most of all I have contempt for all of us who do not do enough to make sure our fighting men and women receive the equipment, material, and the aid they deserve.
Church- do you ever actually read what people are saying? I have the highest regard for the military, in which I , and my son, have served. Now the cowardly politicians, and “a- circumference” folks like my deceased right-wing brother who are so anxious to get them killed in misadventures for profit- definitely not so much.
I suggest that those who think that soldiers are sent to foreign wars of aggression in order to preserve liberties at home are deluded, no matter whether the soldiers in question are members of the Wehrmacht or the US military or any other military organisation. They are sent abroad to make money for militarists at home, and to distract attention from encroachments being made on civil liberties there - «How dare you question our ‘Patriot Act’ when our country is at war ?» Let me once again quote a man who knew what he was talking about when it came to using wars to distract attention, Hermann Göring :
«Natürlich, das einfache Volk will keinen Krieg […]
