LOL… I thought Burl was making it up, just trying to make everybody evacuate, so he could break up the party.
The Pennys are super jealous, being the only couple on the block not invited…With everyone gone, they can scarf up goodies like nobody’s business….The returning partygoers will find a windswept, empty dessert table…devoid of the merest crumb. The “salad bar” table, however, will be mysteriously untouched. You know tornadoes…you never know where they might strike..and with that inexplicable, almost surgical, precision, in some completely random spot.
A gross misuse of Burl’s official power…hahahaha…just a little joke…And they’ll never know, anyway.
I know that Burl is a doofus, but when dangerous weather is around, folks really should be aware and take precautions, viaduct or not. Too often folks laugh and say they’ve seen all this before but I am reminded of Cameron, LA in June 1957, when Hurricane Audrey killed about 600 people because they wouldn’t evacuate. There were news videos of people on Bolivar Peninsula setting up hurricane parties and otherwise planning to “ride it out” when Hurricane Ike came through just a few years ago. Haven’t heard of or seen some of those folks since.

Shelter under a viaduct?? BAD! BAD! Which bubble gum wrapper did Burl read for his tornado training?
