This is sadly all too true. My first job was pumping gas, and one of our charge account customers was a bakery. The owner was a sweet little Italian guy who would hop out and start the pump if you were busy, always friendly and would give you loaves of fresh bread. His kid would come in and sit in the car and not acknowledge you and treat you like something that was stuck on his shoe. The difference between EARNING money and having it GIVEN to you. Funny, after the old man died, the company went out of business…

You never know when you might need medical help, or roadside car assistance. You should treat everyone well.
