I’ve looked up the websites for some and told them I’ve made my selection of charities and anything they send me would be wasted. They appreciated it and thanked me.
They should really find something other than address labels now. Got another whole pack of the useless things from some charity about two months ago! Nobody uses more than a couple of these things a year! Maybe for Christmas and birthday cards?
My Mum would have died destitute if my sister and I hadn’t stepped in. Send that woman a sob story and a return envelope and she’d send you money. When she was in rehab after the she broke her hip Lynn and I started returning things. We had to keep a spread sheet, because there was over 200 of them, and we noticed that some “charities” sent two letters; one would say “Pig Protection Program (yes, that was on her list!) c/o Joe Blow”, and there’d be another one, “Joe Blow c/o The Pig Protection Program”. Naturally, the only two that took her off their list was Salvation Army and one that helped provide surgery for children with cleft palates.
She even sent money to “Minute Man PAC”, and Grover Norquist, who wants to eliminate taxes – including Social Security. I finally convinced her to stop, but she only agreed because he is a Republican.
I used to donate to various causes until “They” all “spent” more money asking for more money, now I just give to the Salvation Army Red Kettle in cash because they can’t “follow” me.
I refuse to support any so called Charity that wastes so much money on crap like that. The same goes for the ASPCA when they blow so much on all those TV tear jerker adds.
We watch for local people or organizations in need and gift them anonymously. That way we don’t get on mailing lists to be perpetually dunned for more donations. All requests mailed to us are sent through the shredder.
In 1994 I gave $20 to an organization, never gave them another penny, but they have sent me more requests at least twice a month ever since then, even tracking me down when I have moved twice.
I have a friend who is a retired mail carrier. He told me that the machines that read the address on an envelope will read the printed address before it will recognize the hand-written one. This includes the return address labels. If you use one of them the odds are that the machine will kick it out as deliverable to you. Fortunately, he said, most carriers are familiar with the names on their routes and will resubmit the letter to be sent to the correct person.
We were once contacted for donations for some charity. We told them we would donate the object they were supposedly collecting for. We didn’t hear any more from them.
My sister lived with me until 2015 when she died. I still get mail for her. The postman said it doesn’t help if you return those envelopes to the senders with a note on them – they will still try and get money out of whomever opens the mail. As an aside, I still get an occasional mass mailer for the prior owners of our home – 25 years ago!

Because of the mailing labels, I haven’t had to write my name on an envelope in God knows how long!

I rather the charity spend the money I donate to them on their cause, not address labels.

She is too generous. $5 to an organization that gets your name wrong? No.

Look them up and see how much of your donation actually goes to the cause!

I’m still getting urgent charity and PAC requests to my father in law who died in 1994.

Rose do not give you retired money. Or you receive notice for more money to hand over.

I would never reward those manipulation tactics.
