I took my mother to the Smithsonian Air and Space museum once. After several hours of touring she said “why do they have so many different types of airplanes? Wouldn’t one do?”
I saw one set up in a back yard that must have been several acres with a couple of sheds. The device was so elaborate, crossing a creek, in and out of the sheds, all over everywhere in that “yard”. It was great!

Kudos to Rick to attempt to illustrate a Rube Goldberg device in a comic strip. Some undertaking.

I noticed the carpet too, but I notice a lot of things that I don’t comment on. Women, like my wife, and his mother, do comment.

One of the intros on Turner Classic Movies is a Rube Goldberg machine.
