Two of my sisters and I were born in Springfield (one state) and fourth sister was born in Springfield (another state 600 miles west). I’ve always loved this family history. Another fact, in both states, we lived outside of the Springfields, residents of small cities. Not that the Springfields were populous themselves!
O hi -o should give you a hint where they are! Now go due west, then a bit south and stop at MO! Just did Brouhaha!
According to Google there are actually 41 Springfields in the U.S., it is the most common city name other than Washington (there are 88 Washington’s, one for each key on a piano keyboard). However, neither make it to the top 50 city names world wide (most popular is San Jose, I wonder if anyone knows the way to get there?).
In New Jersey alone there are three Washington Township, not counting Washington’s Crossing which is where he crossed the Delaware River, there’s also a Washington’s Crossing, Penn.

I like to look at the index in atlases. Try to count how many states have cities with the same names as other states.

Isn’t it fun to solve a mystery? ;-)

Probably the most popular town name in the US. Now, can someone explain why??

It would make sense that The Simpsons chose such a common American town name for their town.

“Bedfordton”. Hmmm, a town built on Beda’s ford according to place names.

I can’t make up my mind if I want those for breakfast or not. I’m waffling.

29 US states have a Greenville. But there are more towns with that name in the country because California has three by that name. So does Indiana.
