    This was 100% true at my old job (large east coast city civil servant). It’s scary to see it spelled out so concisely, especially the part about growing apathetic and lazy.

    Jesus told the “Parable of the Talents”. It had pretty much the same lesson. The reward for doing a good job, was more work.

    Decades ago, I was an assistant manager in a convenience store. Some years after that I ran into my old manager who confessed to me that the district manager would ask her if she thought I was ready to be promoted to manager over another store, but because she didn’t want to lose her “go to” guy, she sabotaged my promotion.
