Alice: THE SUN IS OUT! THE SUN IS OUT! Dad: Let's go down to the beach for 15 minutes before we leave. Alice: That was fun! Petey: If all fun were so brief, I'd enjoy it more.
As for Calvin’s vacation camping with the parents (and Hobbes) where it endlessly rained for days, the rain finally ceased after waving the white flag.
That reminds me of the dog I once had. She loved to go for a ride. It didn’t matter if I just backed out of the driveway and pulled back in, she was just as thrilled.
You have to be flexible and make the best of the opportunities you get, and not make yourself unhappy about the parts that didn’t turn out the way you had hoped.(Especially on family vacations.)
Most of my childhood vacations involved six-hour rides in the back seat of the car with my siblings while my mom told us what she was going to do to us if we didn’t behave. When we finally stopped for the day we got to swim in the motel pool for thirty minutes before going back to the room. So I can certainly identify with Petey.
Actually is not wise to go to the beach after a day of constant rain. All the pollutants drain from the local streets cause bacteria to multiply in the sea shore causing lots of health problems.

It actually reminds me of a vacation I was on in Maine when I was about Petey’s age.

It was a windy day, Pete Sr lost his hat. Did Petey go in the water on his own accord or was he pulled in?
