LOL! LOL! So his dad pulls up beside him, chides him, and takes off! Love it!

Well “shining” because when you wash your face in the morning but your body only once a month the clean tends to stand out!

I don’t think a “shiny face” is an insult in this context. Does anyone remember the song that began with the words, “Good morning to you,Good morning to you,We’re all in our placesWith bright, shiny faces . . . "I feel that Peter was showing off his erudition to Petey, and maybe poking gentle fun at what he perceives as Petey’s reluctance to go to school. The character Peter may be constitutionally insensitive, but I don’t think he’s cruel
