I would call it a garden, yard brings images of concrete and dog crap.
In my 1.5 acre yard I have no concrete, but I do have four dogs.
Even allowing for the buried roots, that tree is a lot shorter than it was yesterday

I got a free red bud seedling last Arbor day. It had a total of 9 leaves and about the diameter of a pencil. I can’t believe how much it’s grown this year. Has several branches, quite a few leaves and about an inch in diameter.
