We had a Bassett unwrap and eat almost an entire 1lb. box of Whitman’s chocolate….didn’t like the covered cherries. The Vet said there wasn’t really all that much chocolate in the candy. Had it been baker’s chocolate that might have been a different story.
A vet told me once that chocolate is very bad for a dog but not nearly as poisonous as people have come to believe. Some vegetables however, like asparagus are actually deadly. Of course, you’re not likely to get a dog to eat it.

Our Border Collie ate 2 boxes of chocolate covered cherries one Christmas, when he was 1 or 2 years old. He was perfectly fine.
