If health insurance companies had not been forbidden to compete across state lines, then any company that wanted to raise its rates 50, 500, or 5 million % would be free to do so and immediately put themselves out of business.
As it is, that horribly timed move by one insurance company may have been the back-breaking straw that pushed the healthcare DEform bill over the top.
I’m in a small group (business)–our premiums have gone up 35-40% or more every year. So every year we have to select a lesser-benefits plan to pay only 3-5% more. Pretty soon we’ll be paying $1500.00/month for nothing.
