The creator of Tarzan was not the greatest writer, but he could tell an awfully good story. He died of suicide when he could not get over his mother’s death.
Lewreader, you are confusing Edgar Rice Burroughs with Robert E. Howard, the author of the Conan series. Both were excellent story tellers, though much maligned.
Kreegah bundolo! Tarmangani bundolo! Gomangani. Tantor, Numa, Hista. Yes, I speak fluent Tarzan…(still have my hardcover “Tarzan” novels from the 1950s, and no, there was no Cheetah in the books, as Coyoty says)

wndrwrthg, I loved the movie ‘The Whole Wide World’, which was about the latter part of Robert E. Howard’s life.

Ushindi, you mean you speak fluent Mangani. “Tarzan” is Mangani for “white skin”.
