Pouring ice water over their heads during summer makes people feel better :)
My extended family did the ice bucket challenge and we are doing a walk in November. If public displays of giving mean that the UCSF ALS Center gets extra funding, its a good thing.

The West is dying for a drink of water, and people waste it by dumping it on their heads…… Seems kinda silly and wasteful to me…..But what do I know, I’m from Michigan, we sail thousand foot ships on top of our drinking water….And no, you can’t have any, and please don’t move here…..
Miny Boy about 10 years ago
Wait, how is dumping a bucket of ice water wasteful? Thanks to the water cycle it will just become rain soon enough. What do people who say that want? That they to mail a bucket of ice water to a area in need of it? How many stamps will that take? Just cool it keyboard warriors, your complaining about a charity event is completely and utterly pointless.

For once one of his stories is plausible. Is the world about to end?

@VarnesWith all the people leaving Michigan for jobs we are suppose to encourage people to visit. So anyone who wants to come you are welcome here….just don’t stay too long.

Two things…first, this cartoon was done several weeks ago when the “ice bucket challenge” was at its peak. I figured by the time this ran it would have pretty much run it’s course, but hoping it wouldn’t be completely irrelevant. Such is the nature of long lead times in Sunday comics.
Second, California is in the midst of a RECORD drought state-wide. Don’t dismiss it as not being as bad as some other time. There has never been a worse drought encompassing the entire state since records have been kept (hence the term, “record drought”).

So hopefully dats da end of a silly habit….

the als charities has an about a good record than those breast cancer charities…less than 15% go to research. the other 85% is for admin costs. gotta pay the ceo of charity millions of dollars and pursue legal action against anyone who uses the word cure.

Have we ever seen him without the cat on his shoulder?
jenifer flower about 10 years ago
first off: the ALS “charity”?!?!?!? hardly- just like most charities (aka SCAMS)- less than 50% goes to any “research” (which is itself fraudulent as well)also- @Nabuquduriuzhur- just how ignorant are you?or do you want to make everything into your usual right-wing polemic???
jrowell about 10 years ago
@NabuquduriuzhurYou’ve got it all wrong. Just check the weather reports. The snowfall this last winter was a mere fraction of normal. Last year was about the same. And I live in California’s central valley, so I know what I’m talking about firsthand. Over here we depend on the water from snow-melt to take use through the year. Lack of snow in the Sierras = severe drought. It’s pretty obvious. You sound pretty stupid to blame the environmentalists – they don’t control the clouds. If you must blame someone, blame God or Mother Nature or whoever you believe controls the weather patterns.

If this isn’t the most mean-spirited Non Sequitur Wiley’s done in his career, it sure ranks among the top five in that category.
