Boopsie: It was a really neato trip, B.D.! There are so many nice people on the tour! Radio: It's a warm 85 degrees. B.D.: Where are you staying? Boopsie: At the Elvis Presley Motor Lodge. It's right down the street from his estate, which is sort of eerie. I mean, I can practically feel Elvis' presence... Radio: More music! "Love me tender... love me true..." Boopsie: Oh, my goodness! B.D.: What? What? Radio: Darlin', I love you.... Boopsie: He's sending me a sign! B.D.: Oh, for God's sake, Boopsie, close the blinds!

People who believe in signs are apt to remain lost….

Given he died in August 1977, yes, Elvis was dead. Boopsie presumably means a sign from the afterlife – hence the reference to being able to “practically feel Elvis’ presence.”

My claim to fame: When I was at FSU, I had a classmate who told me about walking in downtown Memphis, when she saw Elvis coming in the opposite direction. When they passed, she smiled and nodded. He seemed shocked that she hadn’t fallen all over him.We were all young then – Elvis was twenty-seven days older than I was. (We’ve got an 80th coming up.)

I was in a Schlumberger sideline truck summer of 1977When the company man told me.“Fella, they’s some things you don’t joke about.”He assured me he was serious.
