Woman: Where are the groceries? Man: Well, I decided to use the self checkout, and after 20 minutes of "please remove item from bagging area and scan again," I finally removed my items from the bagging area and flung them across the floor. So now I have an arrest record, but no corn flakes or cat food.

That’s why I don’t even use those atrocious, humiliating, dehumanizing things.

The secret is to not bag anything until after you have finished scanning.

Until stores offer the goods at a reduced rate for me self-scannnig, I’ll let the person I’m already paying for do it.

I always end up with an employee helping me anyway; really efficient.

I am not computer friendly… mainly with CASH.

The technology (much like Siri on the iPhone) isn’t really ready for prime time.

I hate those things! When I think, “I’m in a hurry, I have 2 items, I’ll use the self check-out and get out quick”. Needless to say, the Self Checkout gods have a different idea! :-D

Then you obviously don’t grocery shop at a Giant Food Store.

I hate to disagree with everyone, but I like using the self checkout. Most of the time I have good luck with them. Most of the time, that is……

And I’m an old fart too, bp.

I like using self checkout. Fast and easy. I rarely have any problems, even with produce.

I consider myself somewhat tech savvy; but, my ideal checkout lane will have a person scanning the items with another person bagging the products! The lane will not accept credit cards, coupons of any kind, or any other medium except good old CASH!.I found a market in Portland, ME with this service, so I know it can be done…

I use the self-checkout if I only have a few items. Not good if you have anything that is discounted.
gaslightguy about 10 years ago
There is a grocery store near me with no human option unless you press the issue. Went there twice. Let them eat it!

I almost always use the self-check out, especially when I have a few items. Now If I have a shopping cart full I may go through the regular line and have the employees bag the groceries for me.

Sorry, I prefer the human contact. I realise not everybody is a gem to work with but I use a family-owned store and my son and father both worked there at one time. They know who I am.
