Music on AM? Not around here. It’s a vast wasteland of blabber. Worse, the blabbing is moving into FM.

Mark Levin, Coast to Coast AM, and When Radio Was are all on AM. Like most night shift deputies, I am quite familiar with Coast to Coast. You can’t really call yourself a cop if you haven’t listened to Coast to Coast.

FM university NPR stations on weekends. Try Trail Mix on Kansas Public Radio on Sunday afternoons.

The immortal Casey Casem used to be a DJ on KRLA in Los Angeles. AM radio was fun in the 60’s.

You have to go to the real ‘country”, small town anywhere. That is where the local radio is AM, they might broadcast 24/7 or not, and most likely need to “power down” in the evening. That would be the 1020’s 1050’s 660’s 680’s etc. on the dial to allow the “clear channel” stations to come in.

It seems that a lot of the small stations, now a day’s, use a broadcast provider for all or most of their programing. They are programed elsewhere and the locals “add” their commercials and maybe a news spot on the hour. I know it is cheaper on them because all they need is an “engineer” to monitor the signal and to take some calls but you lose some of the local flair.

GoodDoctor: I didn’t know Shreveport was small town, but KRMD will blast out WRR (classical FM). I had it happen once 20 miles from WRR’s broadcast tower. The FCC refuses to do anything, KRMD is a corporation, while WRR is socialism (owned by the city of Dallas).

I guess that revokes my Plugger card, since I can hear the Beatles on FM.

Are you saying that the only way to hear the beetles/Beatles is in a coffin? That’s not nice.
