Finland, a country of 5 million people, has more than 3 million saunas. The scientist Mary Ward became the first person ever killed in an auto accident when she was thrown out of an early steam powered car in Ireland in 1869. Indricotherium is the largest land mammal ever to have lived. It looked like a cross between an elephant, a rhino and a giraffe, weighed 15 tons, stood 25 feet tall, and lived 30 million years ago.

So why did it take about a century after Ms. Ward’s death to finally come up with seat belts?

Save fuel, sauna with a friend. Not too many saunas here in South Texas. Most of the year, you can just go outside.

We need to go back to steam power with natural gas as fuel. Then we need to train people as engineers. We have an overabundance of gas and should also build giant desalination plants for water on all our coasts including Alaska. The water in Hawaii is almost too pure that salt has to be added to properly carbonate.

Is that what you think of seat belts? Just for the irresponsible?
tuslog64 about 10 years ago
Steam vehicles took time to heat up. Nobody today wants to wait an hour or so to get running.

Tom, evidently you never heard how when they opened the throttle on an old Stanely Steamer, they had to shut down as it was about to run away with itself and get airborne. Look it up if you can open your mind that well

Looked Mary Ward up on Wikipedia. She was run over by a steam-powered car built by her cousins.
