One of my favourite paintings for some reason. Did they ever get it back from the theives who stole it?

There are a number of iterations of The Scream. The one stolen in the famous fake-cop theft of <20 years ago has not been recovered. The crime remains unsolved, just like the theft from the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston.

Not unusual for an artist to produce numerous works on the same subject. Degas did many dancers, with many, but not all, being children. Some are sculptures, some are paintings, some drawings. Some are of groups, some are singles. Monet did many “series” paintings of the same subject at different times of day, or in different seasons.

Remember the late Michael Jackson’s 1995 song “Scream”?

Thank you so much for posting that. I’ve always just kind of admired it from afar, as Pschearer said, I guess I was too lazy to really research. Which considering how helpful Mr Google can be, is pretty darn lazy. For some reason in my head I had always associated this painting with the Holocaust, who knows why, I certainly don’t have a reason to.

I have a relative who associates this painting with Macauley Culkin putting on aftershave in “Home Alone”.
