An “Ollie” is a magical move from atop a skateboard by which both the skater and the board “jump” up into the air. You raise the front foot and the weight on the back foot causes the front of the board to elevate. Then you lift the back foot while pushing forward on the board with the front foot. This lifts the back of the board upward until skateboard is horizontal above the ground. Then you push down with both feet to land. The secret is to stay centered over the board, instead of leaning forward.

a friend of mine tried to show his nephew how to do an ollie, and broke his leg
he had a heck of a time trying to explain that to his boss the following week

It was invented by a guy named Ollie. Go figure… More interesting is the term for a Tony Hawk move called “Stalefish.” You can look that one up.
