When I was a teen, I got my finger smashed on a ride through a tunnel with cousins. That middle finger is still as short as the ones adjoining it and it tore open between boat and concrete wall, down to first knuckle (lots of stitches). It left me with a fingernail off-center and curled, so I never wear jewelry on my right hand.
