A silly question for a brilliant group of commenters such as we are; but, does everyone know why manhole covers are usually round?.Don’t fall through with your answers…
One story I heard for the reason for the shape was that pranksters would turn any other shape and drop them down the sewer. The round ones do not fit down the hole.
A one-time colleague broke his leg inspecting manholes by descending improperly. There’s a technique, if you’re being lowered by a rope-harness rather than climbing down a built-in ladder. On the other hand, I’ve never met a practical-joking giant squid at the bottom….Don’t be harsh, Lio!
