T-Rex wants to be famous, not popular.There are many famous people that are not popular.They are everywhere, although I rarely invite them to my home parties.
Unfortunately, “Turns Out They Don’t” isn’t always true…. or at least isn’t always immediate. In my mind, I thought of the unfortunately wildly popular programs in the 1980s by Jerry Springer and Sally Jesse Raphael for instance. There of course are others as well.
My first thought was which prohibition is T-Rex speaking of? There have been several, some of which are still in progress, with varying degrees of success (depends on who you talk to).

Prohibition and anti-homosexuality are still big in parts of western India. T rex would find he was too mainstream there.
