comYics, you just get dumber and dumber. Abolishing celibacy in the priesthood does not therefore force priests to get married. Although, in Paul’s first letter to Timothy, he does at least say a Bishop should be married only once.
i once thought mandatory celibacy was just plain wrong…
but Buddhist monks are single and yet you don’t hear any scandals…are they just hidden or do they really handle abstinence better?
Anyway, celibacy isn’t for anyone, especially not for people who became priests just for the prestige and power of it (like it often happened in my part of the world…it became the downfall of the catholic clergy in french Canada)
Stop pretending to understand the Word of God cdward, your obviously the only idiot in this discussion.
Jesus didn’t marry.
Many of those entering the sisterhood or priesthood, are totally commited to serving God and do not want to become corrupted by the ways of the world. Chose to become celebet. Only the perishing worldly could be fighting against that.
But judaism is a religion completely allergic to celibacy (gotta breed descendants to the chosen people, understandable when you consider that it appeared in a time when the strenght of a people was measured by the size of its army amd that the size of its army was dependent on its male population.)
I say, why not? Would it change anything? Gautama Buddha was married, Moses was married, Abraham was married (and then some…or we would never have had Ismael and his muslim descendants), Muhammad was married…several times…
Lets review. That is my point Bruce4671, that Paul says, It is good. It is not based on opinions, it is based on facts. The cartoon states to eliminate celibacy. That is not what God is saying. To stay celebet is a choice, forcing celebacy to be abolished is forcing to get married. Sounds similar to a holocaust camp. Its almost as if I was telling you never to eat again, it just isnt based on a reasonable request to do so.
1 Corinthians 7:8
8 I say therefore to the unmarried and widows, It is good for them if they abide even as I.
The fact is that celibacy came rather late to the church, many early popes were married, and hardly celibate- in fact, it appears that even AFTER the declaration, a number of popes might have “slipped” on occasion.
It just seems that saltpeter for salvation doesn’t make for a very sane solution.

Some Buddhist monks are celibate, but aren’t “monks” for life either.
Celibacy, wether in pious, or prison populations leads to “strange bedfellows”, and also breeds pedophiles.

I hardly doubt youd want to have sex in church.
