I had my car worked on by an “idiot savant” at Willow Springs garage. He couldn’t read or write, and could barely talk. He didn’t understand electrical stuff, but understood mechanical systems better than the designers. I needed a new (used) automatic transmission, and there weren’t any of the right model at the junk yard. He found one that he said would work great, rebuilt it, and there were a number of parts left over. He said it “would work better without them”. He was right. Superb transmission.
Did I mention he didn’t understand electrical stuff? The reverse switch wasn’t connected. Rather than connect the lights to the transmission, I connected them to a switch I installed on the dashboard. It was great fun for tailgaters…
