I asked a wounded soldier here in Spain if they had anything like the Purple Heart in the US. His response was, “No, all we get is the deep-down satisfaction of duty done.” Well, that’s all CB gets today I guess.
It would be a lot better in today’s world if the first 1500 (maybe less) kids got a low price fpr charity showing of Disney’s hit animated movie “Frozen” plus a free pizza slice, small popcorn, and small soft drink; though Charlie Brown would be shut out as kid #501.
See, what happened here was that Lucy was paying attention to her surroundings, and Charlie Brown was not. So when Lucy decided to remedy this by exploiting Chuck’s good nature, he lucked out.
I knew that was coming when they started the countdown. CB’s problem seems to be he doesn’t seem to pay attention to what’s really going on around him. Lucy does. Girls rule, boys drool.
It always occured to me that this strip was about the unviverse protecting Charlie Brown from his own stupidity. He openly admit that he’s a sucker who goes straight into a marketing trap, and that his decision makes no sense. He could just buy the damn candy bar, that would probably be cheaper.
Can you imagine what would have happened had they not traded places and Lucy was the one denied the free candy bar?I think Charlie Brown just prevented World War III.
Lucy’s no lady, but chivalry isn’t contingent on the character of the lady. It’s contingent on the character of the gentleman. The challenge of chivalry is demonstrating good character when no one else deserves it.

I don’t see a lady there. Now Chuck can go home and do his homework.

Inspired by true events. This happened to Charles Schulz, was number 501 in line and saw the last candy bar go to the kid in front of him.

1500 was about average for way back then, before the advent of the multi-theatre complex…

I remember when this strip first ran, back in 1967. It was my first exposure to the true adage that No Good Deed Ever Goes Unpunished.

Where is there a movie theater that can seat 1,500 kids? I’ve never even SEEN that many kids in one place, come to think about it.

Ultimate proof the universe conspires against Charlie Brown…

Ahhhh, the old upstairs movie balcony….or known locally back then as the “makeout seats”.

There should be a lesson here about giving up something and not expecting something in return..Well, there should be…

Even if charlie brown got the last candy bar lucy would have somehow forced him to give it to her so the outcome would be the same.
