The original version (1932) with Boris Karloff was an underrated classic of the Universal glory days. The scene where Imhotep (Karloff) is reanimated is absolutely priceless; no background music clutter, just the camera straight on Karloff in the bandages, whose eyes s-l-o-w-l-y open… understatement was everything in this scene.
