On NPR, I heard an interview of a couple of guys who were responsible for the creation of the internet,,,,They were asked if there was anything that surprised them about the results of their creation,,,They said they never expected all the cat videos

I believe more than two people were responsible for the creation of the internet.

Yeah, yeah…. a lot of people “invented” the internet, by drawing together various technologies in new ways…But I think I know what Varnes is referring to….One man, Tim Berners-Lee, has been credited as the inventor of the World Wide Web, for sharing information ON the internet….When Berners-Lee was asked in an interview last spring what surprised him most about the web today, he said “kittens”…and that if it weren’t for cats we’d probably still be using 56k dial-up modems.

Someone please explain the joke in today’s strip, which eludes me entirely.
