Good morning, Vagabonds. I expected to spend a quiet time at home on New Year’s Eve catching up on my reading when a friend who I haven’t been in contact with for several years called me up at 4 PM and invited me to his home in Aventura. At first I didn’t want to go – he offered to reimburse me for the cab fare, but that’s not my style. So I called Miami-Dade Transit info and found it would take 3 buses to get within 1 block of his home. The 3rd bus driver didn’t know where to let me off, so I had to take a 4th bus to his house. It was nice to see him and all his kids coming in and out and his huge German shepherd (only a baby) was so charming. He insisted I throw his ball continuously. I had to stay overnight (I hadn’t brought my meds) and the next day I swam in his pool (very overheated) and his dog was also espertly swimming in the pool as well whenever his ball landed in the water. Finally, at 5 PM I decided to brave the 3 bus rides home (again refusing his offer of reimbursing the cabf are). I got home an hour and a half later and finally, by Friday afternoon got back to normal.

We missed the Times Square ball because no one knew how to work his luxurious flat screen.

    Happy New Year, everyone!!

Howdy Vagabonds..Looked at the thermometer this morning, it was a big fat goose egg looking back at me..Well it happened in the wee hours of the morning, the Earth passed the point in her orbit when 62 years ago I took my first breath and complained about the sudden cold air that I found myself in.A lot has happened between then and now, and I guess I can’t complain about all of it..I plan an uneventful day, “May your way be as pleasant.”.ttfn

    Good morning, Vagabonds.

    Happy Birthday, Mark!

It is definitely warming up around here. We had “hard freeze” warnings on the nights of 31st & 1st, but not since then. It’s above 40 now (8:30 AM) and will probably top out around 50. Who said the desert is always too hot?

We got all the Christmas decorations down and put back into storage. Now comes my annual hunt for the one(s) we missed. There’s ALWAYS at at least one.

    Good Morning, Vagabonds,

About 3 hours ago, I posted a message, and just came back, and it was gone. Don’t know why.

Anyway, I want to wish a very Happy Birthday to Mark!

We won’t be taking our Christmas decorations down until Little Christmas. My Grandmother always waited until the Feast of the Epiphany, and so do we. Something about an Old Polish Tradition. :))

PS: I finally finished reading “Michaelangelo in ravensbruck” by Countess Karolina Lanckoronska; now I can continue reading about the last Comanche warrior. @DAVID: Were the family you know descendants of the white side or the mixed Comanche side? The author refers to the American settlers in Texas as “Anglo-Celts.”

Good morning Vagabonds..Today it’s going to be a little soggy, warming up to rain only, then catching cold again over night. :-I.Watched the movie “Annie” yesterday afternoon. That girl reminds me of Shirley Temple curly hair, rather short dress, and a good dancer..I wonder what happened to today’s B&E..OK, I be gone now..ttfn

Good morning Vagabonds. Our storm gave us about 1 inch of snow and then turned to rain. It’s now in the low 40’s and icy but should melt later on. I don’t care as I don’t have to go anywhere. Just put the rubbish barrels out.

    Good Afternoon, Vagabonds,

Didn’t think I’d ever get on line. This has been a very lazy day! I even slept until 9 a.m.!

It’s been snowing all night and now all day. Just about an inch added to what we already had. I actually prefer this lighter snow. Don’t have to go out in it until Tuesday, but it’s still going to be snow until Wednesday.

First episode of the season for Downton Abbey tonight! We re-watched the last episode from last season last night to refresh our minds. Love the “old bats” Maggie Smith and Shirley MacLaine and what they give to the story lines.

    Good morning, Vagabonds.

I’ve got my DVR all set up for Downton Abbey tonight. I’ve also got Season 5 preordered on DVD. It will ship on January 27, about mid-season.

The weather actually got up to 58 yesterday. Not exactly hot, but warmer than expected.

Our pastor has just started teaching from Revelation. It should be a great study, if today’s lesson is any indication.

@Arye – It’s late in the afternoon, so if you don’t see this, I’ll post it again tomorrow.

The good people I knew were the Anglo branch of the Parker family. Most of Cynthia Ann’s immediate family were killed in the Comanche raid of Fort Parker and the folks I knew were descendants of her father’s brother. Something like five, or it may be 6 generations of the family are buried in the local cemetery. I had the unfortunate experience of performing at least one of the funerals myself.

@DAVID thank you for the information. The preface to the book I’m reading was written by a grandson of the last Indian chief.
