Expanding on @bramduff’s comment, that would actually make a lot of sense. If Mary was Joseph’s beard that would explain not only the virginity thing but also why he was perfectly fine with letting her pass some other man’s baby as his own. BTW: pink is now considered a feminine color, but in other times it has been considered a manly color along with other shades of red.
