    Emjaycee…

    I’m not sure what those things are that are labelled long johns in today’s strip.They don’t look like any I’ve seen.In most parts of the US, a long john is a flat, rectangular doughnut:

    In some places they’re called eclairs if they have filling…. even though the same shop may also sell “real” (pastry) eclairs.

    Here in California they’re just called bars… usually named for the icing… like maple bars, chocolate bars, etc…and filled ones are called…. with great brilliance…. filled bars!

    I also lived someplace, long ago, where they were called floats…

    In fact my mother still called them floats after years in CA….but I can’t find any reference to that name for them on the internet.

    Could there be something the internet….. gasp! … doesn’t know??
