I believe Garner died at the hospital from respiratory arrest due to asthma aggravated by both his obesity, and yes, the chest compressions (not “choke” hold, as he was speaking) and postural asphyxia. He was given first aid by EMTs AND the police at the scene of his arrest. (CNN was showing that part of the video taken, that shows they DID indeed try to assist MR. Garner after he continued to show distress.)
Another point I heard this morning regarding “blame”? The mayor and supervisors have the cops taking panhandlers, and “street crooks” off the street so the city will look “nicer” and safer. He was illegally selling cigarettes where ciggies in New York are over $15 a pack. How much does that insane effort to punish smokers relate to his “crime”??
