Too many parents LET their kids wear those clothes to school already. Then they get mad when they are informed their twelve year old daughters are violating dress code.
Dress codes always make me think of Outer Islands High School on Yap. Until the T-shirt lobby got to work, all students went topless (they still do for ceremonial occasions like graduation), and it didn’t affect their scholarship at all.
My 9-year-old daughter was sent home for violating the dress code; she wore shorts under her dress and the principal liked to see panties when they were playing. [He ultimately became Superintendent and has a high school named for him.] The important thing is to teach unquestioning obedience. Der Fürher befehl, wir folgen.

More and more public schools are turning to uniforms now. It seems that here in Miami Dade almost every public school has uniforms.
