In playing Monopoly as a kid, some players would count the squares to the property they wanted to hit, and then beg the dice to roll that number. I could never see the point in that. Just roll the dice and handle what comes. I still feel that way about optimism and pessimism. Why react emotionally before anything happens? I like to say, “What have we here?”
