I remember when there got to be so many people in town that we had to add a âprefixâ to our phone number. It got harder then to call my relatives in townâhad to remember the correct prefix rather than just their 4 digit phone number.
I remember when you NEVER got a dial tone. The operator would say âNumber, pleaseâ and you would tell her the number (it was always a âherâ).
My mother was a telephone operator and she sometimes caught my brother and me when we were calling around asking about âPrince Albert in a canâ or inquiring about the state of someoneâs Frigidaire.
