Brewster, Dr. Mel, and the readers of the newspapers that actually buy and support the strips are almost all American.Whether it’s smart or silly, and whether or not most of the world has adopted Celcius, right now we still think in Fahrenheit here.
While readership on the website is international, and scientists even here use Celcius in the lab, the joke would fall flat if the average reader didn’t immediately recognise the freezing point of water.
Fahrenheit is what we read in the weather report and see on our thermometers, just as the previous generation did in the UK before the switch.

It doesn’t help that Brewster just landed on him.

A temperature of 33°, by itself, indicates only a slight warm.
But with all those other symptoms, he may have be too near a flue.
Tell him to uncover himself, sit in a draft, and keep cold.
He should eat plenty of ice…. the admonition to starve a warm is an old wives tale…but misinformation tends to snowball.

Actually it was the snowman who used the 33 degrees. We have no idea what is the accepted temperature scale on the snowman planet.

“Are you certain that he’s ill?”“I thaw what I thaw”

Fun Facts: At what temperature would a Fahrenheit scale read the same as a Celcius scale? Funny fact: when I was a lad, we called it “Centigrade”.

Celsius, not Celcius. Besides, real scientists use Kelvin.

Wouldn’t have worked as “He has a temperature of 1.”

Does he have any yellow spots. That’s either jaundice or beagles. Both not good.
