Governments do only three things well: (1) killing people, (2) constraining freedom otherwise, and (3) diminishing wealth. The first is the original justification for governments, a mutual protection agreement among members of society. The second is an over-used derivative of the first, and the third is an unfortunate by-product of the first two.
The fact that government performs as designed is not to be lamented. It is the inadvertent acts that should be regretted.
As for “waterboarding” in particular, that seems to me preferable to droning the enemies of freedom. Waterboarding preserves the potential for atonement and redemption by the bad guys; merely killing them facilitates the preservation of the evil organization.
Discussing levels of darkness is difficult when someone is trying to murder your family. The murderer’s motives become moot and self defense a primary right.

Yeah we have to become careful. Pouring water on someone is exactly like sawing their heads off, or killing your daughted because she embarrassed you.

or we could roll over and play dead. If we could get rid of PC crap we could hopefully clean up the mess in France, England, Netherlands, and USA.

This arc is beginning to sound like the plot of “The Savage Curtain” (TOS, season 3, ep 22).
