As for the mug study, what do you get from green mugs? I have four of them and one white mug (for my herbal tea, you non-Mormon folks).

Well, this is the first time I’ve gotten confirmation that the yamakagashi (the Japanese name) actually is poisonous. I had one for a pet as a child, and he loved to be inside my shirt for the body warmth. I was raised thinking the mamushi was the only poisonous snake in Japan outside of Okinawa, so I assumed it was harmless.

I’m thinking the coffee mug study is missing the words “perception of the taste”, unless of course there is dye or other chemicals leaching from the mug itself. I’ve never noticed any differences among cups. Is this like food on a white plate looks more appetizing that food on a dark plate: even though they are from the same batch? Respondents in the study thought that the cookies, chicken, whatever they made tasted different. Sorry, PSY101 was a long time ago.

Right now I have a black mug with and orange interior. This cup tastes the same as the first. Okay, a little more jittery, since I made espresso. But really, I have a shelf of coffee mugs next to my desk and the coffee maker. Coffee tastes the same every pot (pre-packed, drop-in, shoveled with a tablespoon). Weird.

I had to look up more info on the coffee mug study, done in Australia. It’s a bit of a blizzard outside, what else have I got to do? I am so relieved to find that they tested a clear glass mug, as well, which is what I use. It lined up with the results of the blue mug, less bitter. Whew!

As for the coffee mug test, the people who were in the test were not blindfolded. It is not the color of the mug that affects the flavor. It is the desire of the consumer based on what he WANTS that affects the flavor.

don’t want to be any kind of pooper buuutttttt – 2.4 million for a rare hat – just to tell people i have a napolean owned hat. somehow, maybe because i don’t collect hats, seems like such a ‘waste’? but i guess all things are relative, or at least that is what they tell me. but imho 2.4 million would sure do a lot of good for a lot of kids/people who are in need or going to bed hungry tonight. i guess though that if it was bought by an historic society or museum type place that it might be different. again i guess all things are relative.

That mug study must have focused on the INTERIOR color of the mugs. Most of my coffee mugs are solid white inside but have decorative prints on their exteriors, such as straight rows of blue dots, red apples or birds. The last time a sister visited, she asked for the cup with nuthatches (birds) on it for a serving of coffee. It’s solid white inside, and she liked that coffee, a brand which she doesn’t use at her own home. She doesn’t add any creamer or sweetener to her coffee, either.

Ndalaff,I don’t drink coffee from clear glass cups, but not from opaque ones, either; I always use ones that are PARTIALLY transparent, with stripes or fall leaves printed on them. The prints and the colors of the prints don’t affect the taste of the coffee.That study must have been limited to CERAMIC cups, which are always opaque.

All our mugs aboard ship were white and had no handles,I now will have to go and get one or two,as they were a great hand and heart warmer at watch!
